Irreverent freelance investigative reporter Tom Maguire hits rock bottom when bigot editor in chief Ivan refuses to print his pieces anymore and his bad back most be operated, but his health insurance just expired. Sympathetic editor Irene Dunbar, feeling guilty she didn't save his job, volunteers for a fake marriage so he can use her insurance. The 'happy couple' in now constantly beleaguered by her mother and an insurance inspector, while each has his own affairs, but the co-habitation also seems to generate meaningful affection.

Scruffy but irresistibly attractive Yau Muk-yan, without a job or a place to live, moves in with sensitive, shy piano tuner Chan Kar-fu. Both are disturbed, then obsessed, by the amateurish piano playing of upstairs neighbour Mok Man-yee. Obsession turns to romance, and romance to fantasy. The film is structured in four "movements": two themes (Yau Muk-yan, Mok Man-yee), a duet (Yau Muk-yan & Mok Man-yee), and a set of variations (a wild fantasy of Chan Kar-fu in his new novel).

Chan Kar-fu is a piano tuner. One day he is asked to adjust a piano for a young woman and he bumps into her boyfriend Yau Muk-yan who is about to dump her. Yau Muk-yan is without a job and a place to live and forces himself on the somewhat naive Chan Kar-fu and ends up staying permanently in his apartment. Yau and Chan are two completely different people who surprisingly get along very well. Soon both men get fascinated by their new neighbor, a young beautiful woman who spends her free time playing the piano.

Xiao Yan Zi met Xia Zi Wei, a poor girl who marched a long way to find her father, the Emperor, but nobody would take her seriously. Xiao Yan Zi decided to sneak into the mountain where the Emperor hunts, but Zi Wei could not handle the tiring mountain climb, therefore asking Xiao Yan Zi to tell the Emperor her story. Here starts a long and painful story of getting everyone to their proper roles, but many dangers lies near – the death sentence if anyone lies to the emperor, and an evil Empress who is waiting to catch Xiao Yan Zi in the act. Added on top, Xiao Yan Zi’s lack of proper manners and knowledge of books has driven her closer to jeopardy.

A touching love story about a girl Kano Masaki (Fukada) who contracted HIV after selling her body in order to earn money for the concert of a famous composer Ishikawa Keigo (Kaneshiro). After the concert, Keigo saw Masaki chasing after his van. She was drenched, and thus Keigo took her to his apartment, where they spent the night.

Song Yeon-Hwa, a reporter of a weekly entertainment magazine, is 27 years old. Though she is almost kissed by her boy friend several times, she has refused without particular reasons. Then she lost her boy friend. Now knowing her shilly-shally is the reason of her lost love, Song Yeon-Hwa loses daily rhythm all in a furry. One day Han Kyeong-Hyeon, who seems to be a playboy, came to work with her as a photographer. Seating next seat Kyeong-Hyeon nags her chattering all kinds of things and wedging in every occasion. Yeon-Hwa, who suffers from aftermath of lost love, submits resignation with a burst due to nagging and scolding of editor-in-chief.
