Like the original series, "SPEC" will revolve around a pair of police detectives as part of a special division solving difficult cases (Mishou). Touma Saya is a woman with an IQ of 201 and an inability to "read the atmosphere" in social situations. Due to a previous case, her left arm is in a sling. Her partner Sebumi Takeru used to be the star performer of the Metropolitan Police. After some incident however, he was transferred to Mishou. Those two track down offenders with special abilities(SPEC) who managed to get away with their crimes.

Graduating at the top of her class, elite detective candidate Jun Shibata is transferred to the section that handles cases deemed "unsolvable" by the department. Her partner, though a well-respected and experienced detective, has grown complacent after unsuccesfully pursuing these cases that many consider an exercise in futility. With her upper class breeding, her colleagues don't expect much from her either, but she suprises them all with her motivation and astounding powers of deduction. Well-constructed mysteries and colorful characters abound in this stylish and edgy police drama.

Masaka Kubota plays high-school student Keita, who leads a secret life as a "network investigator" for a secret organization. In the introductory episode, Keita has moved to a new school in Tokyo but doesn't like it. His best friend from his previous school comes to Tokyo and they run away together. Passing through a construction site the pair are attacked by a robot, but are then saved by a man named Takimoto and his strange sidekick, a cell phone with arms and legs. This Buddy Keitai cell phone with "human intelligence capabilities" will go on sale in Japan in April.

Haruyama Kyoko, who was in charge of school excursions for high schools at a major travel agency, got it in her head to be involved in high school education and began work as an English teacher at Tachibana Daiichi Prefectural High School, otherwise known as Ikko, a year ago. It is now the entrance exam period, a first for Kyoko. Ikko is a prestigious local school and because the residents even favour Ikko more than Todai, Kyoko and her colleagues are preoccupied with preparations to make sure there will not be mistakes or irregularities. With the school entrance exam just days away, there is a frenzied atmosphere in the school. A meeting is held and Kyoko, Mizuno Fumiaki and Murai Yuji are assigned to be invigilators at the same venue. The son of the English teacher Matsushima Takashi is also sitting for the exam, so Matsushima is not involved in grading the papers this year. This unsettles Onishi Toshiya but Matsushima chides him with the reminder that they have Kyoko this year. After the meeting, Kyoko is asked by the music teacher Takimoto Midori to make a reservation at a popular Hokkaido resort hotel which she has trouble securing. Kyoko learns that the boyfriend Midori is going with is someone connected to the school. Then, on the day before the exam, Kyoko and the other teachers who are preparing the classrooms which will be the exam venue, discover a vellum paper tacked to the blackboard with the words “Down with the entrance exam!” scrawled in ink.

In a modern society in which violent crimes are on the rise, there is a team that tries to resolve cases without bloodshed. It is the metropolitan police's special team, known by the abbreviation SIT (Special Investigation Team). The SIT doesn't get into action after a case but heads to the site just as a crime is being committed. They are on the front-line of risky missions, facing off against criminals; tenaciously conducting negotiations with criminals. As a result of the rigid police hierarchy that can curb the conduct of negotiators, the SIT is also a male-dominated society controlled with strict discipline. There is one female negotiator, Usagi Reiko, who bravely fights at the frontline. She is isolated in the male world of the SIT but courageously fights against crime as well as her organisation.

Investigations on a mysterious woman Toko started when Sonoe, a teacher and Toko's fellow faculty member, was found dead as a result of what seemed to be an unfortunate accident. Eiki, an insurance investigator, and Takeshi, an ambitious police detective, find links between this case and the deaths of Toko's 3 fiances, and are determined to uncover the truth.
