In a ratty flat, a man is on his hands and knees, holding a shoe by its toe, trying to kill a bug of some sort that so far has managed to evade him. He keeps up the chase and whacks at it a few times. Then, we get a look at what he's been trying to flatten. In what sort of universe have we found ourselves? Who's in danger?

Detective Loki: Loki, the Norse god of mischief, has been exiled to the human world for what was apparently was a bad joke. Along with being exiled, he?s forced to take the form of a child. He?s told the only way he can get back to the world of the gods is if he can collect auras of evil that take over human hearts, and so to do this he runs a detective agency. Loki is soon joined by a human girl named Mayura who is a maniac for mysteries, and she soon helps out in her own way. However, soon other Norse gods begin to appear, and most have the intent to assassinate Loki for reasons unclear.

Having just been fired and dumped by his wife, life couldn't possibly be worse for independent artist GORDON HAUGE (Mark Redfield)--until he wrecks his car and finds himself in purgatory that is. Once there, he is attacked by fanatic Shadowmen and legions of Ragmen--souls being enslaved and bent to some dark purpose. They recruit the reluctant and befuddled Gordon and set off on a wild adventure through the surreal landscapes of purgatory to battle the Despiser--an evil being who now reigns in this seemingly God-abandoned halfway house north of hell and south of heaven. Dealing with shifting reality, annoying monsters, armies of Ragmen and hair-raising car chases across bridges spanning oceans of lava our heroes battle their way to the dark macabre fortress of the Despiser.

Not-so-average teenager, Daisuke Niwa, has had an abnormal life. His mother and grandfather have trained him his whole life by setting up traps that can kill him if he doesn't figure them out. On his fourteenth birthday, he discovers why. When any male in the Niwa family turns fourteen, Dark also gets access to their bodies. Dark is a master thief who always leaves notices before he steals items. He's been around for ages and every male must help keep up Dark's reputation. Although dark can take over Daisuke's body, and talk to him in conscience, they are not the same person. Daisuke turns into Dark by from sudden feelings of love, usually brought on by a picture of his crush, Risa Harada. The only way Daisuke can be his normal self (Darkless), is to have the Holy Maiden. This maiden being a girl, and they must love eachother. The problem is, Risa has no feeling for Daisuke, and immediately after seeing Dark for the first time, falls for Dark instead. Daisuke's schoolmate, Satoshi Hiwatari, knows that Daisuke is also Dark and is trying to stop him, as well as Risa's sister, Riku, slowly finding out his identity. Daisuke must dodge these bullets, try and win his Holy Maiden, maintain Dark's reputation, as well as trying to hide his secret identity.

Meet Georgia Lass (who prefers to be called George). She is a young Seattle college dropout who is unhappy with life. She is always at odds with her mom, Joy. One day coming back from her temp job as a filing clerk, she is hit by the toliet seat of the re-entering Space Station Mir. Finding out she is now dead, she is recruited to become a grim reaper. As in life, she is a pain in the butt in death. She does not like the details of her job, and is always at loggerheads with her boss Rube. Her fellow grim reapers don't really take much of a liking to her either. She also learns grim reapers don't even get a free ride in death, as they must hold down regular jobs along with their death duties.

Fate deals young orphan Matt Murdock a strange hand when he is doused with hazardous waste. The accident leaves Matt blind but also gives him a heightened "radar sense" that allows him to "see" far better than any man. Years later Murdock has grown into a man and becomes a respected criminal attorney. But after he's done his "day job" Matt takes on a secret identity as "The Man Without Fear," Daredevil, the masked avenger that patrols the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen and New York City to combat the injustice that he cannot tackle in the courtroom.
