A car plunging over a cliff kills its two occupants identified as newspaperman Lewis Forrester and actress Alison Ford (Terry Moore). Surviving Lewis are his two brothers, Tim (Robert Beatty), a portrait painter, and Dave (William Sylvester), a pilot. Scotland Yard discovers that Lewis' death was engineered by a gang of international diamond smugglers he was about to expose. Before he died, he had sent someone in London a post card with a sketch of a woman's hand holding a Chianti bottle. Alison's father, John Smith (Henry Oscar) commissions Tim to paint her portrait from a photograph. While Tim is out, the supposedly-dead Alison enters his studio, but flees when she finds the body of Jill Stewart (Josephine Griffin), Tim's favorite model. Scotland Yard Inspector Colby (Geoffrey Kene) suspects Tim because whatever alibi evidence Tim presents vanishes before the Inspector can confirm it. Reg Dorking (William Lucas), a used-car dealer tries to blackmail Tim, offering the post card sent by Lewis. Alison surprises Tim in his studio with the news that the girl killed with Lewis must have been a hitch-hiker, as she had left the car before the crash upset because Lewis had charged her father as being part of the diamond-smuggling ring. She finds her father and he confesses to being as charged. In a phone call with a man named Nightingale, he says he is through with the ring, but leaps to his death when Alison leaves. Tim gets possession of the post card after a brutal fight with his brother Dave, who confesses he is in the gang also. He turns the card over to Scotland Yard who discover it is a list of the smugglers written in invisible ink. Alison goes to Tim's studio where she surprises Nightingale who begins to strangle her.

On the other hand, she continues to obssess about her father’s mysterious death seven years ago. One day, Fujimi Sakiko, who is troubled by a stalker, comes to the agency with a request for them to investigate and protect her. And so, Kayoko and Masa accompany Sakiko on her morning jog. Along the way, they discover the blood-soaked body of a man as they approach a back alley from the main street. Kayoko confirms that there is no pulse and tries to report this to the police, but her mobile phone does not have any reception. Leaving Masa at the scene, she goes in search of a public phone with a terrified Sakiko. When the two of them return, the dead body has suddenly disappeared and Masa is lying on the ground. Even if the body had been carried away, it would not have been easy to knock out a former police dog like Masa. Furthermore, Kayoko and Sakiko are summoned by the police to identify the man who should have been dead, Inami Takashi. Kayoko cannot make sense of the situation, but Takashi says he had faked the death of his missing older brother, Hiroshi, to save him from an organised crime syndicate that is in pursuit. Meanwhile Kayoko gets information from Shiina Yusuke, the owner of the bar that the members of Hasumi Detective Agency frequent. She sets out to investigate in order expose the real nature of the man who knocked out Masa and gets close to a big lie. With that as a start, Kayoko draws near to the truth of the death of her father which was considered a suicide.

John Bloodstone is a cop who is put on suspension after he uses a blow torch to stop a group of hostage takers. Bloodstone's next assignment begins when his boss, Commissioner Garth, calls him in and introduces him to FBI agent Harrington, and Garth and Harrington assign Bloodstone to transport a mob informant named Marrietta Copella to a new location. Soon after Bloodstone picks Copella up, Bloodstone and Coppella figure out that Garth and Harrington have set them both up to be killed, because Garth and Harrington are afraid Copella will mention their names in his testimony, and Garth thinks Bloodstone is too dangerous and nosy to keep on the force anymore.
