18 year old Aoi Wakatsuki (Saki Fukuda) works as a maid in a huge Kyoto mansion for the wealthy Sengoku family. What others are not aware of is that Aoi is actually working undercover to investigate the death of a former Sengoku maid. Her death was initially ruled a suicide with a suicide note left behind confessing she broke a priceless vase. Inspector Kaido (Ryuuji Harada) isn't convinced the maid committed suicide, especially with the Sengoku family refusing to cooperate. Inspector Kaido then employs his own maid Aoi Wakatsuki to work for the Sengoku family and uncover the truth.

In the fictional town of Mahoro on the outskirts of Tokyo is Tada Benriken, a small business which does odd jobs. Its owner is the solemn and level-headed Tada Keisuke (Eita), and his unexpected guest, the easygoing but vague Gyoten Haruhiko (Matsuda Ryuhei), a former junior high school classmate who showed up one day and started to sponge on him. The two of them get on like oil and water, and yet are somehow inseparable. They receive queer, dubious incoming odd job requests which they accept, and what comes into view are the friendship between them as well as the backgrounds of their clients.

Taeko, works at a foreign-affiliated financial firm. Takeo finds herself rebuilding a small company that was recently taken over. She soon encounters conflicts with the workers there, who are working to develop geothermal power as a future energy source. Takeo at first views her assignment as a demotion, but she devotes her in making the small company profitable.

Meguru Yoshida (Kyoko Fukada) is an English instructor at a cram school who is forced to support her family after her debt-ridden father disappears. Meguru has a strange condition. Whenever she eats too much, she has visions of what the future holds for those in her presence. One day, while eating barbecued beef, she realizes that her boyfriend, Yuki, will become bald and fat 20 years down the line. She becomes discouraged with the idea that she may end up living her life with Yuki, especially after attending a party with some former classmates who she finds will turn into very handsome men.

In McDull, the Alumni, our protagonist has grown up. He is no longer the little boy who banters with his mates at school. How he wishes he could just go on bantering all day long with his mates at the renowned Flower on the Spring Field Kindergarten. But that is not to be. Like all grown-ups, he has to grapple with harsh reality. McDull and his mates are scattered all over the place. Each one of them has to find his or her own path. In each of their hearts, they know they have failed. Meanwhile, life goes on in the kindergarten. Someone strums a guitar and the pupils chime in to the song: Puff the magic dragon, lives by the sea? A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys. With hindsight, McDull believes this could well be the maxim of the Flower on the Spring Field Kindergarten alumni.

Then suddenly, a professional baseball player, Naito, who was totally drunk, stormed into his room. Naito is a regular customer at the geisha house, and his social status and income are incomparably higher than Kimihiko’s. He said to Kimihiko “With money, I can do anything!” Kimihiko decided. “I will become a professional baseball player and get even with him!” In Tokyo around the same time, Kimihiko’s ex-girlfriend Fujiko also made up her mind. “I will become a geisha girl in Kyoto!” People’s dreams, jealousy, pride etc…come and go in the geisha world… You never know what will happen next. A hilarious story now begins!

A consumer affair rep who works from her apartment decides to play hooky one day, and spends her time calling random people, looking for new connections.

When perpetually disgruntled twentysomething Hunter Reeves is fired from a chain bookstore, his best chance at regaining some semblance of financial security is by offering himself to Pharmakhem, which, despite being exactly the type of pharmaceutical conglomerate Hunter is prone to despise, is paying good money for human test subjects. Along with his fellow unemployed friends Nicki and Greg, Hunter agrees to set aside his most recent Noam Chomsky book and swallow an experimental anti-depressant. Unlike Prozac, however, this drug doesn't encourage proper brain chemistry as much as it induces stupidity. Ignorance really is bliss for Hunter; while he finds himself increasingly unconcerned with the state of the world, he's also becoming progressively dumber.
