Miki Kakuta (Nana Eikura) graudates from a second-rate university and scores a job at the top company in her field. Miki then becomes an OL ("Office Lady"), but things turn for the worse for Miki. After a few trivial errors she becomes the target of bullying by her co-workers (even endures a fake webpage made about her). Her immediate boss Yukiko Sano (Yoshino Kimura) gives Miki the cold shoulder, co-worker Marika Tachibana (Anne Watanabe) acts as her friend but makes jokes about her behind her back, senior employee Shota Nakahara (Jun Kaname) seems reliable but Miki realizes that she should keep her distance, and her head boss Seichi Kirino (Naohito Fujiki) is absolutely indifferent to her. Through all of this Miki decides to tough it out and not run away from her job.

Seiran Gakuen is an exclusive private boys' high school. It's the start of the summer break and Yoshikuni has decided to spend this year's summer at the school's Shoraikan dormitory, as have Mitsuhiro, Kanji and Iwatsuki. All four boys have their own reasons for not going home. Yoshikuni's girlfriend is Hiroko, but with his own reasons, he tells her he doesn't want to see her for a while. Hiroko isn't satisfied with this but Yoshikuni keeps on avoiding her. On their first day, Yoshikuni and Mitsuhiro set out to buy food for dinner. They bumped into Osamu, a day student. Hiroko and her friend Aki turns up. Aki ask Yoshikuni why he dumped Hiroko for no apparent reason. Hiroko can't take it any more and bursts into tears. Takagi who lives in the dormitory next door sees this. Some days later, Mitsuhiro's step-mother Keiko visits the Shoraikan dormitory. He is cold-hearted towards her, like a different person.

Takenouchi plays an aquarium employee named Kengo, who seems ordinary at first glance but actually possesses a secret that he would sacrifice everything in order to protect. Meanwhile, Ueto plays Risa, a young woman working in the sex trade in order to pay off her brother's debt, though her situation has led her to contemplate suicide. These two characters, both full of despair, meet each other and end up entering a contract marriage purely for its benefits. But Juzo's trauma has created a monster; he harbors a second personality, Neighbor No. 13 (Shido Nakamura), a vicious, brutal and disfigured character intent on exacting a painful revenge on his bully.

Nodame and Chiaki mutually decide that it would be for the best if they parted ways for a while so Nodame can practice for an upcoming competition. However, when things don’t go her way, she gets impatient and depressed. While Nodame is away, Chiaki’s former pianist Rui Son returns to take her place. To make matters worse, Rui and Chiaki are set to play the song Nodame dreams of playing with Chiaki herself: Ravel’s “Concerto in G Minor”.

Chiaki Shinichi (Hiroshi Tamaki) wins he prestigious Platini International Music Competition and becomes the new orchestra conductor for the Le Marlet Orchestra. Chiaki then goes with Frank (Eiji Wentz) to observe the orchestra and is astonished by their poor performance. It seems due to lack of funding the orchestra lost many of its members & the interest of its audience. Meanwhile, Nodame (Juri Ueno) prepares for a graduation exam at her music school. She is happy that Chiaki has finally become a conductor and becomes even more enthusiastic when Chiaki asks her to play Ravel's "Bolero" with the orchestra. But, her excitement soon turns to disappointment when Son Rui (Yu Yamada) takes her part in the "Bolero" performance. Nodame tries to hide her disappointment from Chiaki. The performance itself turns out to be a bomb. The audience laughs while Chiaki tries to do his best. Chiaki thinks back to his first practice with the S Orchestra and his teacher Franz Strezemann (Naoto Takenaka). Nodame attempts to comfort Chiaki after the performance, with Nodame and Chiaki eventually deciding that they will make the next one a success. Chiaki holds an audition for new members in his orchestra, while Nodame takes care of the promotional activities. Finally, the performance is set to begin. The concert hall is packed thanks to Nodame's efforts. Nodame is excited about the performance, but also has an uneasy feeling as well. Chiaki then takes the stage, holds his conducting baton in the air and ...

Naoko meets Yusuke while staying on an island for medical treatment. Yusuke's graceful athletic figure captivates her eyes and she falls in love with him. But their relationship is soon broken after Yusuke's father dies while trying to save Naoko from drowning. The memory of Yusuke leads Naoko to the track, and six years later, they meet each other again at a Marathon competition. Naoko decides to become a manager to help Yusuke, a gifted runner, and they embark on training together to heal their sorrows from the past.
