Born to Lose The Last Rock and Roll Movie

Veteran documentary filmmaker and hipster Lech Kowalski creates this film about his friend and hard-partying rock god Johnny Thunders, member of legendary proto-punk band the New York Dolls. Through archive footage and interviews with such musicians as Dee Dee Ramone and Sylvain Sylvain, the film details his stint with the Dolls, the formation of his other band, the Heartbreakers; his rise to fame, particularly in Japan; his descent into heroin addiction, and the mysterious circumstances of his death in a New Orleans hotel room in 1991.

Baby Bach

Baby Bach : aby Bach is a nicely produced video that features recognizable, familiar toys and colorful objects, moving to the complexly beautiful music of Johann Sebastian Bach. According to the video producers, "Bach's music has shown to enhance creativity, improve academic achievement, reduce anxiety and heighten mental awareness." Any parent will embrace this theory. Not only did this video completely captivate a 22-month-old for its entire 30-minute run-time, but it's easy on the parents, too. The images are lively, clean, and sharp, and producers The Baby Einstein Company have a firm handle on what interests babies and toddlers. The extraneous segments with two pretty little blonde girls is silly, but forgivable. Given that most children elect to watch a video repeatedly, this is one that parents won't mind in the slightest.

Blood and Flowers - In Search of the Aztecs

Originating from a tribe of wanderers in the area we now know as Mexico, the Aztecs were the dominant political power in Central America until the Spanish Conquest. The traditional view of them is of bloody sacrifice to gods such as Huitzilopochtli, the god of warfare. But behind this image was a very sophisticated culture. They were devout, with a high moral code that prohibited torture and gave women more rights than their European counterparts. The capital, Tenochtitlan, was far larger than any contemporary European city. Their big mistake was to welcome the Spanish.
